FAQs About the APTA Rail Conference and Pittsburgh Regional Transit Service

Frequently Asked Questions in our Entertainment Hub about the APTA Rail Conference

Q. Is there information available on how to get to all of the locations listed on the Entertainment Hub using PRT services?

A. You can download the Ready2Ride app to plan your trip using Pittsburgh Regional Transit service. We will also be listing bus and rail routes under each location on the hub as we get closer to the conference, so check back soon for this information!

Q. How can I get from Pittsburgh International Airport to Downtown Pittsburgh?

A. You can take the 28X airport flyer from PIT airport to Downtown Pittsburgh, where the conference is taking place. The 28X operates every 30 minutes between PIT and Downtown. Please follow the wayfinding APTA Rail Conference signs in the landside terminal at PIT to get to the bus stop for the 28X route.

Q. Where does your rail service go and how can I access it?

A. Our rail, or as we call it, “T” service extends from the North Shore of the city, through Downtown, to Station Square and into Pittsburgh neighborhoods south of the city. There are four T stops in Downtown: First Avenue, Steel Plaza, Wood Street, & Gateway. If you are trying to reach the T from the conference area we suggest using Wood Street Station, as it is the closest to the Convention Center.  Just as an FYI, T service between Allegheny Station on the North Shore and First Avenue Station in Downtown is a free fare zone, meaning you can just hop on the rail car and ride without needing to pay or scan your transit pass.

Q. I saw there’s a tour of the Monongahela Incline- what about the Duquesne Incline?

A. While there is no organized tour of the Duquesne Incline, you can get to the incline lower station using the G2 and 31 bus routes that stop near the convention center. You can use your PRT transit pass to pay your fare on the incline. At the top of the incline you will find some great restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the city.

Q. I am planning to attend most of the conference sessions at the convention center but my family is looking for something to do during the day. Any suggestions?

A. Our entertainment hub is a great place to start when looking for ideas on what to do and see in Pittsburgh. We highly recommend a ride on the Monongahela Incline and seeing the city from above on Mount Washington. Strolling the Strip District, a few blocks away from the convention center, is a great way to experience Pittsburgh food & culture. You will also find the Heinz History Center here as well as some 21+ entertainment such as The Puttery, an indoor mini golf experience.

Q. I’m in the city and am having some trouble with my PRT transit pass. What should I do?

A. You can stop by the PRT table at the APTA Rail Conference located on the 3rd floor of the convention center with any questions or issues related to your transit pass or wayfinding around Pittsburgh.

Q. I have other questions about Pittsburgh. Who can I reach out to?

A. If you’re already at the conference feel free to stop by the PRT area at the convention center where we will be able to help you out with any questions pertaining to our beautiful city.
