Monongahela Incline Tour

A popular tourist attraction, the Monongahela Incline is the oldest funicular in operation in the United States.

PLEASE NOTE: The Monongahela Incline Tour will begin at the Lower Monongahela Incline Station in Station Square. To get to this tour meeting site, proceed to Wood Street T Station and ride to the outbound Station Square stop. Once at Station Square, walk to your left along the hillside until you come to the Lower Incline Station.

The two-car, track operated people mover originally opened for service in 1870 to ferry passengers and freight from Mt. Washington to Carson Street and Downtown Pittsburgh below. Originally steam driven and improved over the years, the incline now features a state-of-the-art operating system. Tourists and commuters alike experience this six-minute ride seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Each tour time can accommodate 10 participants. Tours last one hour. Participants will receive a special 2023 APTA Rail Conference memento upon completing the tour. Tour times are listed below.
