Experience Outdoors

Explore the beauty of downtown Pittsburgh

The city is much more beautiful and vibrant than it was 50 years ago. From outdoor trails to boating in the three rivers, Pittsburgh has a lot to offer for an amazing outdoor experience.

Pittsburgh’s rivers are ideal for water activities. Rent a kayak or boat through Venture Outdoors, a non-profit with the mission to connect people to the outdoors. Venture Pittsburgh also offers lunchtime fishing with instructors in Point State Park or North Shore Riverfront Park. Consider taking a sightseeing tour on the Gateway Clipper or reserve a pontoon from Pittsburgh Party Pontoon. No matter what you decide, there’s plenty to do on the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers for those looking to stretch their sea legs.

Note: To get to the Gateway Clipper from the convention center, catch the T at Wood St. Station and ride to Station Square. Walk 6 minutes to destination.

Looking for some exercise? Consider renting a bicycle from BikePGH through its POGOH bikeshare program or take a bicycle tour with Bike The Burgh. If you’re staying at The Westin Pittsburgh for the APTA Rail Conference, walk across the Sister Bridges to the North Shore, which are conveniently located right next to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

In addition, Pittsburgh has several fun ways to see the city. If a sunset tiki cruise sounds like the perfect way to end the day, check out Cruisin’ Tiki Pittsburgh, the Steel City’s newest water experience. Cruise the three rivers in a Hawaiian Tiki Hut while enjoying tropical cocktails.  If a group bike ride is more your style, check out Pittsburgh Party Peddler. An environmentally friendly way to see Pittsburgh, the Peddler combines light exercise and fresh air as you bike through the city. Finally, Segway Pittsburgh provides safe and memorable guided tours of the city, featuring historical buildings, bridges, parks, plazas, waterfall paths and more around Downtown.
