Family Time

Activities the whole family can enjoy

Looking for family-friendly activities to do with children before or after the APTA Rail Conference? Pittsburgh embraces children of all ages, and is a fantastic city for families to explore together.

Parks

If your family relishes the outdoors, don’t miss visiting Point State Park, located at the confluence of Pittsburgh’s three rivers: the Allegheny, the Monongahela and the Ohio. The park commemorates and preserves the strategic and historic heritage of the area during the French and Indian War. As a National Historic Landmark, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources works in collaboration with the Heinz History Center, the Fort Pitt Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution to interpret the history of the Forks of the Ohio.

For a park experience on the North Side of Pittsburgh, don’t miss Riverview Park, which is known for its dense woodlands and steep topography. This 259 acre park invites hikers, joggers and the occasional horseback rider into the woods. The park is also home to the landmark Allegheny Observatory, a visitor’s center, a swimming pool and the natural beauty of the Mairdale watershed.

Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium

One of the best walks in Pittsburgh is through the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium! The zoo strives to foster positive, lifelong connections between animals and people. Whether through exhibits, educational programs and conservation projects, its goal is to ensure Earth remains a suitable home for all life by discovering the interconnectedness of  the natural world.

Kennywood

For the quintessential Pittsburgh experience, visit Kennywood amusement park. Whether your family prefers classic wooden roller coasters or modern thrills, Kennywood has been Pittsburgh’s thrill and entertainment destination since 1898. With over 40 rides and attractions and its famous potato patch fries, nothing can compare to a day at Steel City’s favorite amusement park.
